Who is Liz?

I’m a twenty-something living in DC with my husband Neil and my dog Leela. I love living in the city, most of the time. This blog will document my life as I try to exercise and eat healthy, enjoy the city and all it offers, and work full-time (at a pretty stressful job!).

I went to college and grad school at University of Rochester, finishing up both degrees in the Spring of 2006.  I had the best years of my life, but all the unhealthy activities (though fun) began to take a toll on my body.  I moved back to the Washington, DC area where I grew up and decided to make a change.

I began on Weight Watchers almost as soon as I moved back, and became a lifetime member about six months later.  I only had about 10 pounds to lose, but those 10 pounds made a huge difference.   While Weight Watchers was a great way for me to learn about healthy portions and eating right, it also led me to obsess over every bite. Now I try to eat as healthy as possible without worrying about the numbers (calories and scale) although that is easier said than done!

A few months later, I began incorporating exercise into my routine and now I can say I am addicted.  I used to be the worst runner – I would give up after a block – but by November ’09 I was training for my first marathon. Read more about how I became a runner here.

Unfortunately, a day before the race I found out I had a stress fracture in my left leg and would not be able to run the marathon. I also cannot run for two months, so I’m setting some new goals: a sprint triathlon in June and a fall marathon.

Here is a picture of me running the Cherry Blossom 10-miler in April ’09. Why are racing pics always unflattering??
